New Year's Eve in 1913 in Vienna: The elegant Hotel Sacher is bustling with activity. After the festive performance at the opera, royal and imperial highnesses, diplomats, high officials and officers of various nations are expected. Although the different attitudes in Europe are increasingly pointing to a violent solution, the mood on New Year's Eve is exuberant. But behind the shiny façade, there is suddenly a scandal: The Austrian civil servant Stefan Schefczuk, who has just been released from prison, is already under the observation of the Austrian police again. To prove his innocence, he has to uncover the intrigue against him that night. But the trail leads to his great love, the Russian spy Nadja Voroneff, of all people.
