Men of War: Assault Squad 2 is the sequel to the second standalone expansion to Men of War, a war RTS set in the realities of World War II. The sequel was developed by the two studios responsible for the previous installments of this strategy series, i.e. Best Way (Soldiers, Faces of War) and Digitalmindsoft (Men of War: Assault Squad, Call to Arms). The action of the title takes place during World War II in various areas of Europe, including the eastern part, as well as in North Africa and the Pacific islands. The player chooses between five countries, such as the USA or the Soviet Union, and takes part in battles in both single-player and multiplayer modes. Single player focuses mainly on skirmish missions, while online modules have been developed accordingly. It is possible to participate in 1 vs 1, 2 vs 2 and 4 vs 4 fights, as well as in huge battles in which sixteen people face each other (8 vs 8). Like previous installments in the series, the game emphasizes realism, and the gameplay requires focus and dynamic use of various tactics. To raise the bar, the developers have improved the artificial intelligence of their opponents, making the clashes with the computer even more challenging. These solutions go hand in hand with changes that make it easier to play, such as improving the interface or handling the inventory of units. The game runs on the significantly improved GEM 2 engine. Old models have been replaced with new ones, texture quality has been improved and new graphic effects have been added. In addition, Men of War: Assault Squad 2 uses multi-core processors, which translates into higher performance, as well as supports modern technologies, m.in. Shader Model. The title is compatible with the Steam platform, so it requires it to run, but there is also the other side of the coin. New features have been introduced, including automatic download of updates, the ability to send progress records to the cloud, access to fan modifications within the Workshop service, and a matchmaking server search system.
