Painkiller Hell & Damnation is a fast-paced shooter, which is a refreshed version of the first part of the series, in which only the player's reflexes matter. The project was created in the Gliwice studio The Farm 51, known from the NecroVision series. This band was founded by people who took part in the production of the first Painkiller. The main character is Daniel Garner, who dies in a car accident with his wife. However, it does not go to heaven or hell. He is chosen to fight the demonic hordes in the name of good, which is to allow him to redeem his sins and allow him to join his wife in the afterlife. The game was built on the basis of Unreal Engine 3 technology, thanks to which it was possible to obtain a much nicer setting than in any of the previous installments. Despite the change in the engine, the basic rules of the game have not changed. Once again, we play as a hero armed to the teeth, who has to face hundreds of bloodthirsty enemies and gigantic bosses. Quite a large arsenal was put at our disposal. The player can use a dowel that nails enemies to walls, ceilings, or floors. In addition to this, there are standard weapons in FPS games, such as a shotgun or a rocket launcher, and all of them have two fire modes. In Painkiller Hell & Damnation, there is only one tool that was not present in the first part of the series – Soulcatcher. It allows you to collect the souls of fallen enemies and fire a beam of rays at them.
