SHOGUN: Total War – Collection is the complete edition of the first installment of the legendary Total War series, including the base game SHOGUN: Total War and the official Mongol Invasion expansion. The title takes players to feudal Japan, to the realities of the Sengoku era – a time of civil wars, betrayals, ambitions and the struggle for absolute power. The player takes on the role of the daimyō of one of the powerful clans and strives to unite Japan under their own banner. The gameplay combines a turn-based campaign map with epic real-time battles where tactics, troop morale, terrain, and proper use of units are crucial. The campaign offers province management, economic development, diplomacy, espionage, and the recruitment of armies made up of historical units such as samurai, ashigaru, and warrior monks. Ninjas and geisha also play an important role, being used for assassinations, sabotage and intelligence activities. The Mongol Invasion expansion introduces a new campaign set in the thirteenth century, during the Mongol invasion of Japan. The player can take the side of the Japanese clans defending their homeland or face powerful armies of invaders, with new units and different combat tactics.
