Players build spaceships, space stations, planetary outposts of various sizes and uses (civilian and military), pilot ships, and travel through space to explore planets and gather resources for survival. In Creative and Survival mode, there is no limit to what can be built, used, and explored. Space Engineers features a realistic volume-based physics engine: everything in the game can be assembled, disassembled, damaged, and destroyed. The game can be played in both singleplayer and multiplayer modes. Volumetric objects are structures made up of block-like modules connected in a grid. Volumetric objects behave like real physical objects with mass, inertia, and velocity. The individual modules have the actual volume and storage capacity. Space Engineers is inspired by reality and how things work. Think of modern NASA technology extrapolated 60 years into the future. Space Engineers strives to obey the laws of physics and does not use technologies that would not be feasible in the near future. Space Engineers focuses on the construction and exploration aspects, but it can also be played as a survival shooter.
