With the scenario system, you can customize the difficulty and gameplay style by creating your own zombie apocalypse story. One of the pillars of the game is full mod support. Players can trade resources, add new items, or introduce their own mechanics, and then publish their designs in the Steam Workshop. This opens up huge possibilities for personalization and creating your own versions of the game. In the game world, days and nights are governed by completely different rules. During the day, zombies are slower and less aggressive, allowing them to focus on sourcing, building, cooking, hunting, and preparing for nightfall. At night, the threat grows – hordes become stronger, react faster and can overwhelm with numbers. Players can create a base practically anywhere. Every building and every vehicle can be fortified: planks on windows and doors, barricades, lights, a car plow or reinforcements of structures. You can even move into a mobile home – a van or camper – and live life to the fullest on wheels, cooking, sleeping, and storing supplies in remote locations. Nutrition systems, hydration, and mental health have a real impact on gameplay. Taking care of your diet, cooking meals, hunting game, keeping warm, and healing wounds increase your character's stamina and transportation capabilities. Mental health, on the other hand, limits aggressive play against other players, promoting cooperation and alliance building. There is an extensive network of mechanics available in the game: crafting based on text-based menus, blueprints that allow you to plan your build, weapon customization with attachments, traps, growing crops, electricity, vehicle repair and maintenance, dynamic weather and the four seasons. Optimization allows you to display huge hordes of infected, and a variety of points of interest hide valuable items and special loot. Self-hosting servers is simple and doesn't require network configuration, and solo play runs smoothly with Steam Relay support. Official and community scenarios allow you to customize your playstyle, and over a hundred customization options allow you to create your own perfect world and share it with others.
