Whiskerwood is an elaborate colonization-strategy game in which small mice try to survive and develop their settlements under the watchful, merciless eye of feline rulers. Your journey begins on pristine islands full of resources, where you must quickly create an efficient colony, meet the growing demands of the cat, and at the same time take care of the needs of your own community. Cities are built vertically and horizontally – you use the limited space of islands, erect structures upwards, dig tunnels in the mountains and create networks of residential and storage caves. Terraforming allows you to shape the terrain as needed, level the ground for development, direct water inland or avoid natural obstacles on procedurally generated maps. Resources, an initial crew of mice, and a small supply of materials are the foundation on which the survival of the colony depends. Colonists possess unique characteristics and guild affiliation, which affects their work efficiency and preferred living conditions. You need to allocate tasks appropriately, taking care of the daily needs of the mouse – food, water, heat, rest and infrastructure maintenance. Climate also plays a key role: storms, cold or sudden changes in weather can destroy crops, endanger the lives of rodents and force the construction of steam systems and extensive networks of heating pipes. Whiskerwood offers a wide range of production – from basic resources such as wood, metal ores or wheat, to processed goods: clothes, tools, ready meals. Over time, you will also produce luxury goods, such as spices, furniture or tea. They are the bargaining chip in your relationship with cats or other mouse factions with whom you can trade, develop bonds or create economic dependencies. The key element of the gameplay is automation. You create extensive networks of conveyor belts, ramps, elevators, slides and pipelines that speed up the transport of goods and the movement of residents. As your colony grows and your research progresses, you unlock new technologies, upgrade buildings, and streamline production processes, transforming a small mouse settlement into a well-functioning mousetrap powered by steam and engineering ingenuity. However, cats do not stop demanding – their expectations are growing, and the consequences of not meeting tithing can be severe. Over time, you will be faced with a choice: continue to meet their demands, build monuments in their honor and increase productivity at the expense of morale, or bet on freedom, build parks and ensure the prosperity of your own subjects? It's up to you whether your mice will stay under the paw of oppressive cat tyranny or dare to raise their whiskers to freedom.
