Udo Lindenberg turns 80 - the birthday book by Benjamin von Stuckrad-Barre

Udo Lindenberg is turning eighty. It sounds unbelievable, but it's true. In 'Udo Fröhliche,' Udo's friend and chronicler Benjamin von Stuckrad-Barre ('Panikherz') explores eight decades of Udo's universe, spelling out the Lindenberg alphabet from alcohol to cello and wanderlust, roller skates, language, hotel and hat to cigars.

Biographical short stories about a man who changed the Federal Republic of Germany, its society, its language, and thus its way of thinking – through his music, but above all through his mercilessly unpretentious humanity. Benjamin von Stuckrad-Barre tells the story of a man who became a major event and a German institution from a very close, knowledgeable, witty, and insightful perspective. It also deals with rise, fall, and resurrection – ultimately, Lindenberg's life is a legendary hero's journey.

'Udo, like any thinking person, may have a problem with age. However, one must also acknowledge that age has a problem with Udo. Somehow, it just can't seem to get a grip on him. I wonder if the voucher for the trip to the moon is still valid? Udo would be ready by now.' (From the chapter 'Birthday')
