Samir H. Köck's attempt to interview Van Morrison in 1990 failed. First, he wanted the questions written down, then he claimed he couldn't read the handwriting. This proved to be the perfect prelude to his 35-year interview marathon. Music journalist, DJ, and curator Samir H. Köck has since conducted around 3,000 conversations with musicians of all genres. He went for a drive with Tom Waits in California, shared cocktails with Amy Winehouse in Berlin, and the legendary Little Jimmy Scott even visited him in his living room in Vienna's Leopoldstadt district. A small selection of these encounters will be documented in the anthology "Talk To Me." He chatted with pop heartthrob Bryan Ferry about fashion designer Helmut Lang, and with yodeler Gretl Steiner about Osama Bin Laden. With devout soul singer Al Green, he discussed the pitfalls of worldly worship, and Nine Inch Nails singer Trent Reznor explained why he got angry when Johnny Cash covered his song "Hurt." Françoise Hardy told him how scruffy her admirer Bob Dylan was in the 1960s, while Iggy Pop raved about the Chateaubriand Hardy prepared for him before a duet. Köck witnessed pop singer Christian Anders swatting some rather lively wasps on a late summer evening at Lake Wörthersee. When asked if this didn't violate his Buddhist beliefs, Anders replied, "Oh, come on, they'll all come back." Samir H. Köck sat with musicians in posh hotel suites and dreary backstage rooms, letting Willy DeVille place his sweat-soaked hat on his head. Nick Cave, in front of the entire Grinderman lineup at the Hotel Triest, pulled a bathing cap over his head. He met grumpy and enlightened artists, but also sweethearts like Lana Del Rey, Wanda Jackson, and Tim Fischer. In the end, they're all just big kids.
