In it, she vividly and exuberantly recounts her childhood in the rural South and her rise to become one of the leading artists and intellectuals of the Harlem Renaissance.

Hurston's deeply personal literary self-portrait is captivating, offering an insightful, often audacious glimpse into the life—public and private—of an extraordinary artist, anthropologist, chronicler, and advocate for the Black Experience in America. Full of the wit and wisdom of a proud, spirited woman who rose from the bottom to the top, 'Footprints in the Dust' is a rare treasure from one of literature's most esteemed voices.

Biography (Zora Neale Hurston)
Zora Neale Hurston (1891-1960) grew up in Eatonville, Florida, an all-Black community. It wasn't until adulthood that she became aware of the social significance of her skin color. In 1920s New York, she was part of the Harlem Renaissance and published her first works. As an anthropologist, she traveled extensively, including to Haiti. She died forgotten by the public and in poverty.
