In Åre, people know their neighbours. But they are not trusted. A series of mysterious deaths afflicts the mountain village of Åre in northern Sweden. The victims have one thing in common: they were all very old and dependent on help every day. Although none of the corpses show any traces of external violence, Hanna Ahlander suspects that something is wrong. She is alone with her suspicions, because since a fierce argument she can no longer count on the support of her closest colleague Daniel Lindskog. When an unpredictable thaw complicates Hanna's investigations in wintry Åre and the conflict with Daniel intensifies, another dead body is found.
