Product description

Biography of an exceptional artist between the Berlin underground and international success: Alexander Hacke was obsessed with classical music from an early age, but ultimately dropped out of school and hung out in the West Berlin underground scene among punks, squatters, and bohemians. After initial musical projects under the pseudonym Alexander von Borsig, he became a member of the recently formed Einstürzende Neubauten in 1980. While Neubauten rose to become a groundbreaking and hugely successful band, Hacke not only experimented with various stimulants but also tirelessly developed his musical style: whether together with his then-partner Christiane F., as an internationally successful solo artist, as guitarist on Gianna Nannini's album Dispetto, as a film composer for Fatih Akin, or together with his wife, the artist Danielle de Picciotto, with whom he has been traveling the world since 2010. 'Krach' is a dazzling historical document of the wild West Berlin before the fall of the Wall, the rise story of Einstürzende Neubauten, and a captivating life story of a multifaceted individual, all in one. For this revised and expanded new edition, Hacke adds the last ten years to his memoirs, first published in 2015, and takes stock of his unique artistic biography, which spans avant-garde art, film music, and modern nomadism.
