What if the future has already begun – just without us?
For years, the sun has beat down mercilessly. The heat is unbearable, the south uninhabitable, the state a mere facade. Those who could afford it left in time for northern Scotland, Greenland, Canada, or Siberia. Only a few people remained in their homeland. Fausto is one of them. In a largely abandoned village, he and a few neighbors struggle to survive. Daily life is harsh and monotonous. Until one day, a beautiful, silent young woman appears, seemingly unaffected by the heat. Fausto falls in love and finds hope. He has no idea what an outrageous secret is connected to Valérie...
A compelling novel about a highly topical issue and a disturbing thought experiment.
