How do you find happiness that lasts a lifetime? It's springtime in northern Michigan. Lara's three grown daughters return to the family orchard. While picking cherries, they ask their mother to tell them the story of Peter Duke, the world-famous actor with whom she performed years ago in a theater troupe called Tom Lake—and with whom she shared a tumultuous love affair. Through Lara's memories of her youth, the three daughters are challenged to critically examine not only their relationship with their mother, but also their own lives, rethinking cherished beliefs and certainties. 'Summer at Home' is a meditation on first love, marital love, and the lives of parents before they became parents.
