Product description

"A grandiose novel, of simple beauty and deeply moving." Julia Schoch Annett Gröschner tells no less than a whole life with the story of the florist and crane driver Hanna Krause - with a force and poetry that can only be created where literature is saturated with reality. Hanna Krause was a florist before life made her a crane operator. She experienced two revolutions, two dictatorships, an uprising, two world wars and two defeats, two democracies, the Kaiser and other leaders, good and bad times, gave birth to six children and was unable to bury two of them, which affected her until the end of her life. Later, after her flower shop was long gone, she had a good overview of the relationships between people ten meters below her from a crane in the hall of a heavy engineering company in Magdeburg and died in time before she no longer understood the world. Until her death, Hanna Krause remained someone who takes life as it comes. Her only credo: remain decent. Annett Gröschner's novel tells the story of a century in a single life and, with Hanna, gives a face to those who too often remain invisible. A novel about the end of the industrial age and its heroines in East Germany - and about an ordinary woman in this incredible 20th century. From the author of the SPIEGEL book "Three East German Women Get Drunk and Found the Ideal State" Multi-award-winning author Mainz City Writer 2025: Literature Prize of ZDF, 3sat and the City of Mainz One of the most important voices of her generation
