Actually, the dissimilar friends Zoe and Hailey turn their backs on New York to study art in Berlin in the noughties. Hailey in search of success; Zoe to get over the death of her best friend. They delve deeper and deeper into Berlin's nightlife and try to make a name for themselves in the scene. Finally, they open an illegal club in their apartment, which the crime writer Beatrice has given them, and organize increasingly wilder parties. Soon the boundaries between reality and fiction become blurred, because they feel observed: Is Beatrice using them as a model for her new novel?
