Ms. Karlson, an alcoholic mother, is trapped in an abusive relationship with Harald. With Josef's help, she manages to escape, but the fresh start becomes an ordeal. Someone reports her to child protective services, and her daughter Karla is taken away from her. Instead of support, Ms. Karlson encounters resistance: Child protective services and family support services ignore the domestic violence and insist on a "perfect family" with Harald.
