Who owns the city of the future? Daniel Wisser tells the story of the dream of a digitized, feel-good world and its biggest problem: humanity. A sense of optimism pervades NEUDA, the safest, cleanest, and most sustainable city in the world. Drones circle above the grid-like streets, while electric carts and cleaning robots move silently below. A noise meter monitors the sound level, which must not exceed 54 decibels. Journalist Morag Oliphant, whose husband and daughter were killed in an attack by unknown assailants, seeks a new beginning in NEUDA and wants to report on this pilot project. The residents of this smart city are guaranteed safety, quality of life, and harmonious coexistence.

At least, that's what the politicians promise. But Morag Oliphant soon notices strange things: unregistered people scurry through the streets, the garbage simply disappears at the city limits, and security isn't provided by the police, but by a private company operating outside of any oversight. When a man dies at a demonstration and no one wants to take responsibility, Morag Oliphant not only gets closer to uncovering the shadowy network of politics and the corporation that runs NEUDA, but the investigation into her family's death also seems to be connected to it.
