Laure is a doctoral student at the Sorbonne in Paris - self-confident, charming and rebellious. Erica, who is still trying to find out who she is, decides to spend time abroad in France. Already at their first meeting in front of Sacré-Cœur, the spark jumps, and the two begin an affair, marked by jealousy and attraction.
The summer passes, Erica and Laure lose sight of each other, but the memory of the time together remains and brings the two together again and again over four decades. Erica goes back to England, marries, becomes a mother and struggles with writer's block, while Laure struggles with political upheavals and personal challenges. With every new encounter, the two women have to ask themselves whether they made the right decision back then. A story about the lives we almost lived.
