The great journalist Paul Lendvai as a witness of the century 95-year-old Paul Lendvai is Austrian, Hungarian, Jew and European: What determines his identity? Born in Budapest, he barely survived the Holocaust. In 1953 he was imprisoned as a 'Trotskyist' and then banned from working, and in 1957 he managed to escape to Austria. Here he found a new home, here he became an internationally active journalist. In his new book, he combines biographical with analytical, domestic and European politics. Despite all the criticism of Viktor Orbán, he has close ties to Hungary. And since anti-Semitism has been on the rise worldwide, it feels more than ever part of the Jewish community of destiny. In his descriptions it becomes clear: Identity consists of many facets, together they form the essence of the human being. Biography Paul Lendvai, born in Budapest, has lived in Vienna since 1957. He is an internationally renowned publicist, author and TV presenter. He worked for 22 years as the Vienna correspondent of the British daily newspaper "Financial Times" and was editor-in-chief of ORF's Eastern Europe editorial office from 1982-87; then until 1998 director of Radio Österreich International, head of the TV Europe studio. He has published numerous books on Central and Southeastern Europe. For his autobiography "On Black Lists. Experiences of a Central European", Paul Lendvai received the Donauland Non-Fiction Prize in 1997.
