He trained as a sound engineer for theatre and radio and then studied dramaturgy at the Moscow Theatre Institute. He has lived in Berlin with his wife and two children since 1990. Kaminer regularly publishes texts in various German newspapers and magazines, has a weekly show called "Wladimir's World" on SFB4 Radio MultiKulti, where he shares his notes of an everyday cosmonaut every Saturday, and he organizes events at the coffee shop 'Burger', such as his now infamous "Russian Disco".
