Product description

In recent years, the world of work has changed more dramatically than ever before. How, when, and from where we work has taken on a completely new dynamic. Employers now have to compete for employees, not the other way around. This development has brought flexible work models such as working from home, mobile or hybrid work, remote work, and workation to the forefront.

Should everyone be able to work the way they want? Or do we increase employee satisfaction but jeopardize the economic performance of companies and our entire economy in the medium and long term?

Professor Florian Kunze describes how flexible work models function. Using compelling examples and scientific findings, he highlights the opportunities offered by flexible work models, while also addressing the challenges and risks. Behind the seemingly limitless freedom lies a complex field of tension: the perspectives of employees and employers are often not aligned.

What effect do flexible work arrangements have on employees? What impact do they have on motivation, health, and career opportunities? What skills and routines are necessary to make the best use of them?
How do companies and managers view flexible working? What does it mean for productivity, innovation, and teamwork? Which leadership styles are suitable for promoting diversity and talent management in this new world of work?
What does the future hold for flexible working? Will we still need offices in the future world of work? How sustainable are flexible working arrangements, and what impact do they have on our organizations, cities, and societies?
Rethinking work and changing it so that it becomes meaningful for employees and creates added value for companies.

When companies sent their employees to work from home in March 2020, Florian Kunze, a professor at the University of Konstanz, launched a study with 1,000 employees. The Konstanz Home Office Study, which has now comprised 16 survey waves, garnered widespread attention and made Kunze well-known far beyond the HR community.

Free from speculation, he outlines possible developments, supported by current research findings and patterns from past transformation processes. His book is an inspiration to rethink one's own work methods and to better understand the perspective of employers. The changes in the world of work are significant, but they also offer the opportunity to redesign work: meaningful for employees and valuable for companies.
