Product description

Are we facing a golden age of stupidity? And will artificial intelligence lead to us thinking less in the future? With his analytical and provocative investigation, the Norwegian philosopher Lars Svendsen delves into the history of thought and examines the phenomena of stupidity and idiocy - with a serious goal. He points out that stupidity marks a lack of thinking, while idiocy is bad thinking. What makes idiocy so dangerous, however, is that it is more or less immune to criticism. Because what happens when we are not able to distinguish clear arguments from stupidity and nonsense? We lose touch with reality and thus the ability to live together. And what if stupidity means our omnipresent thoughtlessness? Then each of us can assume that we are not exempt from the diagnosis. The philosopher Lars Svendsen is concerned with self-reflection as well as with our own habits of thought and ways of seeing things. It sensitizes readers not only to the stupidity of others, but above all to their own tendency to jump to conclusions, narrow-mindedness and stubbornness.
