Product description

In 1959, René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo created Europe's greatest comic icon: Asterix the Gaul. This new edition presents the 24 epic adventures of Goscinny and Uderzo in chronological order in eight volumes, supplemented by numerous pages of bonus material. Included are the classic albums "Asterix as a Gladiator", "Tour de France" and "Asterix and Cleopatra". Biography (Albert Uderzo) Albert Uderzo, born in 1927, became an assistant draughtsman in a Parisian publishing house in 1941. In 1945 he helped with the production of an animated film for the first time, a year later he drew his first comic strips, became a screenwriter and soon also made self-contained series of drawings. During this time, he wrote "Belloy, Ritter ohne Rüstung" (for the magazine OK) and "Verbrechen lohn sich nicht" (for the newspaper France-Soir). Uderzo became an employee of a Belgian agency in Paris, where he met Jean-Michel Charlier and René Goscinny in 1951. With Charlier, Uderzo made "Belloy", "Tanguy" and "Laverdure" and with Goscinny he first wrote "Pitt Pistol" and "The Incredible Corsair", followed by "Luc Junior" (for La Libre Belgique), "Benjamin and Benjamine" (for "Top Magazin") and "Umpah-Pah" (for "Tintin"). In 1959, Uderzo and Goscinny founded their own magazine, called "Pilot". In June 2004, Albert Uderzo received the Max and Moritz Prize of the Comic Salon Erlangen for his outstanding life's work.
