Biography (Jean-Michel Charlier)

Jean-Michel Charlier was born on October 30, 1924, in Liège, Belgium, and began his career as an illustrator for Spirou in 1945, before becoming the most popular and prolific Belgian comic book writer. Dozens of characters sprang from his imagination, including Buck Danny, Tanguy and Laverdure, and Blueberry. Along with René Goscinny, Albert Uderzo, and Jean Habrard, Charlier was one of the founders of Pilote, one of the most important Franco-Belgian magazines. Jean-Michel Charlier died in 1989.
