The car belongs to the famous racing driver Marshal Armitt, but it was driven by his brother James, who had borrowed it. Marshal fabricates an alibi for James for the time of the incident. James is supposed to tell the police he was at his mother's house. The alibi is meticulously planned, but in doing so, Marshal inadvertently exposes his brother: Their mother was murdered at the same time—something James doesn't yet know! Since James now claims to have been at their mother's house at the time of the attack, Inspector Hurst of Scotland Yard is forced to arrest him. Did Marshal James fabricate an alibi simply to avoid becoming a murder suspect himself? And if so, will his devious plan succeed? What role does Marshal's former lover, Mercia, play, who happens to be at Marshal's apartment the morning after the murder? Alibi for James is an extremely cleverly constructed crime film boasting an excellent cast. The popular actor Peter Vogel (Kottan Investigates) is perfectly cast as the nasty race car driver, Heinz Ehrenfreund (The Red Scarf) is convincing as the gullible James, playing the role with a touch of naiveté, and Jochen Brockmann (The Frog with the Mask) delivers an interesting and shrewd inspector.
