A great love: Luna and Amar are a happy couple and desperately want a child. But they don't just share a table and bed, they also share problems: Amar's frequent visits to the pub put a strain on the relationship and when he is caught drinking at work and fired, the two have to ask themselves what to do next. An old friend, a devout follower of Islam, offers Amar a job in a Wahhabi camp in the countryside. But as soon as Amar has left town, contact with Luna breaks off. Weeks later, he returns completely transformed. Amar is convinced that this place has given him peace and made him happier. Soon he expects Luna to change as well, because her modern lifestyle does not fit his new values. When Luna finds Amar praying next to the bed one morning, she realizes how profoundly he has changed. The two seem to be moving further and further away from each other. And yet Luna firmly believes in a future together, in which she can save her love and yet remain true to herself. A rousing narrative delight makes Jasmila Žbanić's »Between Us Paradise« an intense cinematic experience. The young director conquers every inch of her fantastic actors and creates her own dramaturgy of love, which makes you physically feel every crackle, every longing and every loss. This film gives a completely new meaning to the detachment from great feelings – that of a love whose strength lies precisely in its fragility, in the sometimes painful necessity to rediscover the other.
