Then came success, with it ambition and finally, when he did not see it satisfied, the detachment from his principles towards corruption through power. This debut work by Orson Welles, which is also his masterpiece, was showered with awards. It received an Oscar, the Film Critics Award and is one of the 12 best films of all time.
