Product description

The romanticized image of the trucker, embodying all the virtues of the West and pioneering spirit—honesty, courage, decency, rugged warmth, self-confidence, and masculine camaraderie—perhaps reached its pinnacle in this film. Based on a record about a runaway, Convoy glorifies the trucker through the character of Martin Penwald, nicknamed "Rubber Duck," who, in his fight against Sheriff Lyle Wallace, joins forces with other long-haul drivers via radio to form a gigantic, mile-long convoy. This truck train, drawing its strength equally from pent-up frustrations and horsepower, rolls relentlessly down the Arizona highways toward the freedom of the Mexican border. Under the watchful eyes of sensation-seeking media and vote-hungry politicians, "Rubber Duck," his girlfriend Melissa, and their friends thunder down the highway, recklessly crushing police roadblocks, a school bus they happen to be crossing, a rest stop, and several houses along the highway's edge. With the Mexican border already in sight, the unstoppable onslaught of cars encounters an inescapable obstacle: a fortified bridgehead controlled by Sheriff Wallace, his men, and National Guard troops. "Rubber Duck" charges at the enemy, but his explosives-laden truck explodes, floats off the bridge, and sinks into the river. A gloriously over-the-top state funeral is held for the new national hero—but the movie is far from over...
