Young Aurora is convinced that a monster has devoured her family. In her desperation, she seeks help from the mysterious stranger next door, a contract killer who is reluctant to promise her his services. He suspects that Aurora's parents were not eaten by a mythical creature at all, but were victims of an attack that was actually aimed at him. Driven by feelings of guilt and responsibility, he finally faces the task of protecting the girl - and has to realize that some monsters are actually real.
