Eight hours is not a day. 3 DVDs New
How many hours remain after an eight-hour workday that aren't dominated by professional, political, and family problems? With his five-part series EIGHT HOURS ARE NOT A DAY, Rainer Werner Fassbinder explored working life and the private hours after work in the 1970s. For the first time, a family series was set in a working-class environment, combining socio-political and economic commentary with everyday stories full of suspense and entertainment. Fassbinder focused on discussions about co-determination and solidarity in the workplace, high rents, anti-authoritarian parenting, and much more. It was an alternative to feel-good television, with which Fassbinder wanted to directly reach the "little people," as he called them. A new and elaborate restoration of the series was made possible by the Rainer Werner Fassbinder Foundation, WDR, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, and the Medienstiftung NRW. The restored version will celebrate its world premiere at the 2017 Berlinale in a Berlinale Special screening at the Volksbühne. New product
