Berlin, 1931: A place between sublette and underworld, where brothels are studios, Nazis rabble on the streets and young Fabian works as an advertising copywriter during the day and wanders through the city's quirky establishments at night with his friend Labude. Only when Fabian falls in love with the pretty actress Cornelia does his life seem a little less bleak for a moment. But when he loses his job and Cornelia's affection for her producer grows, the situation threatens to slip away from him.
