Two young women meet one morning in Berlin's Tiergarten. Nina, the child in the home, shy and defiantly introverted; Toni, a thief who takes the world and never misses a chance. Nina is attracted to Toni's impulsive nature. She follows her on her breathless forays through the city. The elegant Françoise also wanders through Berlin. She does not give up hope of finding her daughter Marie, who was kidnapped here many years ago. Her husband Pierre tries with gentle patience to persuade her to return to Paris. The paths of the three women cross. For a brief, real moment, Françoise thinks she recognizes Nina as her daughter. Then the girls have disappeared back into the big city.
