The focus is on the life of the charismatic, but later dangerously paranoid priest Jim Jones. From the committed idealist of the 1960s to the founder of the Peoples Temple, the plot follows his rise, the relocation of his followers to the jungles of Guyana and finally the fateful events of Jonestown in 1978, which resulted in a mass suicide with more than 900 deaths.
