Of all places, three former roommates, Astrid, Elli, and Isabella, now all in their late forties, have chosen a rainy campsite in Austria—run by a taciturn landlord and occupied by only one guest, a racist permanent camper—for their annual holiday. But this year, they face particularly daunting challenges. Elli is struggling to regain her independence after successfully completing chemotherapy. Astrid, the eternal optimist and master of control, is lost in perfectionism. And Isabella is stuck in a stale affair with a married man. A bizarre twist of fate catapults the trio unexpectedly into a luxurious holiday on the Lido. In the opulent hotel, past and present collide with full force: Isabella runs into her lover there of all places, Astrid causes an accident, befriends a beach vendor—and gets into trouble with the Italian police. Elli, overwhelmed by her daughter's unplanned pregnancy and the tensions between her friends, suddenly disappears after a heated argument.
