The Danish soldier Esben feigns an injury in order to escape the First World War and return to his wife Kirstine and son Karl after three years. But in his absence, the world has changed. A charming German officer has replaced him as father and is now trying to win Kirstine's heart. Esben decides to fight for his love and his family.
