Long forgotten in a psychiatric ward in the swamplands of Louisiana, the young Mona Lisa wakes up from years of lethargy on a blood moon night. Thanks to her mysterious ability to control the will of other people, she escapes the asylum and finds herself on the streets of New Orleans.

There she meets the stripper Bonnie, who recognizes Mona Lisa's gift and takes her in. While Bonnie exploits the powers of the shy woman for joint robberies, a tender friendship develops between Mona Lisa and Bonnie's ten-year-old son Charlie. But the thefts do not go unnoticed and soon Mona Lisa is targeted by the local police.
