Kosovo 1999, there is war between Serbs and Albanians. Danica, a young widow, lives with her two sons, Vlado and Danilo, in the simplest of circumstances in a predominantly Serbian settlement, near a small town that the river Ibar divides into an Albanian and a Serbian part. The death of the family man at the hands of Albanians has left its mark. Little Danilo hasn't spoken a word since then and Vlado has become a loner who skips school. His dream is a beautiful light blue bicycle. In order to be able to afford it at some point, he dives every day in the Ibar for fish, which the Serbian kiosk owner buys from him for little money. Danica's life changes abruptly when the wounded Albanian KLA soldier Ramiz appears in her front yard. Regardless of his nationality, she nurses him back to health and falls in love with him. The slowly awakening passion and love of Danica and Ramiz comes to an abrupt end when Ramiz is denounced by Danica's neighbor and has to flee to the Albanian side. The mute Danilo also ends up there unintentionally. Although the bridge on the Ibar is now closed, his older brother Vlado manages to get in touch with Ramiz, who finally finds the little boy and wants to bring him back to Danica...
