Somewhere between Hamburg and Flensburg lies the small village of Büttenwarder – unremarkable, really, were it not for its quirky, endearing community. Leading the charge are the shrewd friends and rivals Kurt Brakelmann and Arthur 'Adsche' Tönnsen. Since 1997, these two, perpetually broke, have been chasing after big money and the legendary 'nominal value' with their ludicrous schemes – sometimes as visionaries, sometimes as spectacular failures, but always with dry humor and typical North German stubbornness. Alongside them are innkeeper Shorty, stable boy Kuno, Mayor Schönbiehl and later Günther Griem, village policeman Peter, and of course, Uncle Krischan. For over two decades, Büttenwarder has been making television history – 98 episodes and numerous specials brimming with eccentricity, stubbornness, and heart, achieving cult status far beyond northern Germany.
