Product description

In Hollywood, the land of dreams, only one thing matters to Edward Lewis: big business. A business trip has taken the wealthy businessman to LA, where he intends to buy James Morse's struggling company and resell it piecemeal—a transaction his lawyer, Phillip Stuckey, has meticulously planned. But the business party, where initial contacts are supposed to be made, bores Lewis. After an unpleasant encounter with his ex-girlfriend, Edward abruptly leaves the party in Phillip's luxury car and then wanders aimlessly through LA. Around the same time, Vivian Ward is getting ready for work in her run-down, small apartment: wearing a blonde wig, black high boots, and a short miniskirt, she earns her living as a call girl on Hollywood Boulevard, where she works alongside her friend Kit.

For both of them, in Hollywood, the place of dreams, only business matters. When a luxury car drives past them and finally stops, Vivian sees her evening's earnings secured. Inside is Edward, who has lost his way and asks Vivian to guide him to Beverly Hills. On the drive there, however, he is so captivated by her outrageously cheeky yet utterly fascinating manner that he invites her to his hotel room. And so the worldly-wise call girl stumbles into the luxurious world of high society. Fascinated by Vivian's laughter and directness, the usually rational Edward offers her $300 if she stays the whole night—just to talk, of course. But the next morning is about to get even better: When Philipp suggests he bring a female companion to the business dinner, Edward impulsively asks Vivian if she would like to work for him for a whole week. A $3,000 payment and the life of a princess—Vivian doesn't hesitate to accept this offer, especially since she finds the charming Edward quite appealing. Before Vivian can fully venture into high society, however, she needs the appropriate attire and a crash course in etiquette, which hotel manager Bernard Thompson promptly provides. At first, Vivian is met with strange looks and condescending treatment in the upscale haute couture boutiques, but thanks to Edward's financial support, this changes abruptly, and soon she's wearing the most beautiful suits and cocktail dresses. It's hardly surprising that businessman Morse is initially quite taken with Edward's companion at a business dinner—despite the numerous faux pas Vivian constantly commits. But it is precisely this warm naiveté that softens the reserved, cold-hearted Edward.

Suddenly, alongside stock prices, his heart also plays a role in his life. The week they spend together leaves its mark on both of them: Vivian learns to appreciate the manners of a true lady, while Edward discovers his social conscience and his emotional side. He even calls off the carefully orchestrated deal with James Morse for reasons of conscience. Day by day, Vivian and Edward grow closer until they finally fall hopelessly in love. As the time for parting approaches, Edward hints that he would like to provide her with every luxury as his mistress. But Vivian is deeply hurt, feeling once again degraded to the status of a prostitute. She clings too tightly to her dream of the prince who will rescue her from her tower. But perhaps in Hollywood, the land of dreams, some unexpected wishes will indeed come true...
