Kirby Frye, a Confederate officer and now a cavalry scout, is sent to the Montana area to find and bring back Gatling Guns stolen from the U.S. arsenal. These were stolen by criminals to sell to the Sioux and Cheyenne in the West. The path leads him to Red Bluff where the entrepreneur Martin Gavin, who is supposedly the honest operator of a cargo line, has the weapons under his control and intends to deliver them to the Indians in exchange for furs.
