The Carpathians in the 13th century: The Mongol army moves inexorably westwards. Led by the powerful ruler Burunda Khan, the army destroys towns and villages and subjugates anyone who stands in its way on its campaign of conquest. But some warriors resist. At the foot of the Carpathian Mountains, Maxim and Ivan, sons of the local leader Zakhar Berkut, free a group of prisoners from a Mongol camp and thus incur the wrath of the merciless Khan. A relentless campaign of revenge against the Carpathian villages begins, in which the troops of the Khan are supported by Zechar's traitorous archenemy Tugar. When the Mongols learn of a secret path in the mountains that leads them directly to Zechar's village, the rebellious hill tribe faces a battle that could seal their fate forever...
