The two Chicago musicians Joe and Jerry become eyewitnesses to the Valentine's Day massacre. Fearing the gangster Spats Colombo, the two then flee. On their journey to another state, they get to know the women's band around Sugar Kane Kowalczyk and join the band without further ado - with a new identity.
