India: Smita dreams that her daughter can go to school and thus escape the misery in which she has to live as an "untouchable". Italy: Giulia works in her father's wig workshop. When he is in a coma after an accident, Giulia has to take over the business and discovers that the family business is heavily in debt. Canada: The renowned lawyer Sarah is to be promoted to partner of the law firm when she learns that she is seriously ill.
Three lives, three women, three continents - three fates that could not be more different. Although Smita, Giulia and Sarah have never met, their lives are intertwined in moving, unique ways.
The finely spun drama THE BRAID is the latest directorial work by multi-talented Laetitia Colombani, who adapted her own bestselling novel of the same name for the big screen and also wrote the screenplay together with Sarah Kaminsky. With a great sense for the moment, she weaves a powerful film work of art about three women and their desire for freedom from three loose strands, in which the actresses Mia Maelzer, Kim Raver and Fotinì Peluso inspire with their intense performances. The homage to the self-determination of women is accompanied by the soulful compositions of Ludovico Einaudi.
