THE DOG is the story of a political prisoner who escapes from a state prison and intends to deliver vital information to members of his underground organization in the country's capital. His escape from the secret police turns into a relentless chase by a guard and his tracking dog. When Aristides is overpowered by his pursuers, his mission seems doomed. But he manages to overpower and shoot the guard. Before the guard dies, he manages to give his dog one last command: "Kill him!" After a harrowing escape fraught with peril, the dog's panting breath always at his back, Aristides finally reaches his destination: the city. There, he discovers that much has changed. He realizes he must continue his flight. He is pursued by the regime's henchmen and by radical members of his own organization. And the dog hasn't lost the trail either...
