Product description

England in the late 19th century. John Merrick, known as the "Elephant Man," has suffered from severe physical deformities since childhood, particularly his head and torso. He is exhibited as a rare curiosity at fairs by a sadistic and exploitative showman, gawking at by sensation-seeking public. But then the surgeon Frederick Treves becomes aware of his case and takes him to London to examine him and provide him with a dignified home in a hospital. After initial skepticism, the hospital staff finally agrees when it becomes clear that the "Elephant Man" possesses a sensitive and intelligent character. However, despite the doctor's fruitful efforts to integrate John Merrick into society, he is not safe from human cruelty even there.
