At the beginning of the 1930s, Kansas suffered from a severe drought. The swindler Bill Starbuck takes advantage of this by tricking the rural population into believing that they can produce rain for 100 dollars. The situation is particularly bad on H.C. Curry's cattle ranch, as his daughter Lizzie cannot find a husband. Starbuck seems to be the ideal solution, although at first he only goes through with his swindle.
