A gruesome murder overshadows the preparations for a large, fantastic exhibition on superstition at the Museum of Natural History in Chicago. A bad time for an opening party, because the killer is still up to mischief in the unmanageable labyrinth of halls and underground passages. Together with evolutionary biologist Dr. Margo Green (Penelope Ann Miller), hard-boiled Lieutenant Vincent D'Agosta (Tom Sizemore) tries to solve the gruesome murder. A few days before decapitated corpses pave the corridors of the museum, two boxes of a scientific expedition were delivered from South America. One contained an image of a South American tribal deity.
