The famous physician Isak Borg is to be honored at the University of Lund in southern Sweden on the 50th anniversary of his doctorate. Together with his daughter-in-law Marianne, the 78-year-old will make the journey to Lund. But the journey becomes a sobering trip into the past. In daydreams and memories, he lets stations of his life pass and has to realize that he has wasted many years of his life due to his coldness of heart. Borg decides to become a different person...
