Product description

One of the biggest "rediscoveries" of obscure US metal/hard rock bands from the eighties is without question Ashbury from Tuscon in Arizona. The band, led by the two brothers Randy and Rob Davis, released two albums that are difficult to find in the original today: "Endless Skies" (1983) and the (belated) follow-up "Something Funny Going On" (2010). The roots of the band, however, go back even further: multi-instrumentalist Randy Davis had already launched Ashbury South in southern Oklahoma in 1977. Together with his brother Rob, he released the now highly sought-after LP "Endless Skies" in 1983 (in an edition of 1,000 copies). "It was a private pressing from start to finish," Rob Davis says today. "Our total budget was just 5,000 US dollars. We also organized the distribution ourselves. Tower Records in the western United States was our most important partner." Ashbury have been compared to Jethro Tull here and there, and the Davis brothers can indeed live with this comparison: "This statement puts a smile on both of our faces. We are very proud to be mentioned in the same breath as a legend like Jethro Tull." A large part of the fact that »Endless Skies« has cult status in metal circles today is due to the cover artwork of the record, a fantasy drawing with a typical eighties flair. Rob and Randy elaborate: »The cover depicts creation, the decision we all have to make. The drawing explicitly refers to the first song of the record: ›The Warning‹. The prophet warns humanity not to take the wrong path and to stay away from greed and evil itself.«
